Mihail Mitrea is researcher in Byzantine philology at the Institute for South-East European Studies of the Romanian Academy in Bucharest. He recently completed a Marie Skłodowska-Curie individual research fellowship in the School of History, Classics and Archaeology at Newcastle University (2018–2020). He received his PhD from the University of Edinburgh (2018) with a thesis on the hagiographic works of Philotheos Kokkinos. He has held several fellowships awarded by prestigious research institutions such as the Alexander S. Onassis Foundation (2014–2015) and Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection, Washington D.C., Trustees for Harvard University (2016–2017). His research interests lie in the fields of late-Byzantine literature, hagiography, epistolography, theology, as well as Greek palaeography and textual criticism.
