United Easter/Paschal Greetings from the Institute for Ecumenical Research
This Monday, as all Christian confessions are now fully within the celebratory phase of the Easter/Paschal liturgical season, the faculty and staff of the Institute for Ecumencial Research, themselves comprising of Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant faiths and traditions, may now properly extend our best wishes to all, as one Institute.
The present pandimic known as COVID 19 has disrupted many aspects of the work of our Institute, but it has also afforded us a moment to reflect on the purpose of our labors and prepare for the challenges and opportunities in the months and years to come. Undoubtedly, this past Lenten season will be remembered as none other within the span of any of our lives. So much has changed in such a remarkably short period of time, so many statements and declarations from Institutes, governmental, ecclesiatical, civic organizations and public personalities that it is difficult to find a coherent, original statement to contribute.
Perhaps then, it is best to keep it simple. Lent has passed, and Easter, the celebration of life, is here. The mission of our Institute is not to contribute to the conversation of how best to engage in that celebration. Our mission is to ask why it continues to be important.
Through study, research, dialogue and interaction with our peers from across the world, across a wide range of academic and theological disciplines, but all working towards a common goal, the staff of our Institute continues to do just this, even as we each work independently from our homes until the time comes to be a physical working community again. We do not yet know that much-looked-to date, but we will continue to work as we have this past late winter and present spring, and keep you informed of our forthcoming publications and courses via email, internet and social media. For today, however, we wish you blessed greetings in this joyous season, the feast of feasts.

Ostergrüße des Instituts für Ökumenische Forschung
Da sich nun alle christlichen Konfessionen mitten in der feierlichen Phase der österlichen Kirchenzeit befinden, möchten die Fakultät und die Mitarbeiter des Instituts für Ökumenische Forschung, die selbst aus katholischen, orthodoxen und protestantischen Glaubensrichtungen und Traditionen bestehen, an diesem Montag unsere besten Wünsche als ein geeintes Institut an Sie alle richten. Die gegenwärtige Pandemie, die unter dem Namen COVID 19 bekannt ist, hat viele Aspekte der Arbeit unseres Instituts beeinträchtigt, aber sie hat uns auch die Gelegenheit gegeben, über den Sinn unserer Arbeit nachzudenken und uns auf die Herausforderungen und Chancen der kommenden Monate und Jahre einzustellen. Zweifellos wird uns die zurückliegende Fastenzeit wie keine andere in unserem Leben in Erinnerung bleiben. Es hat sich in so bemerkenswert kurzer Zeit so viel verändert, so viele Erklärungen und Stellungnahmen von Instituten, staatlichen, kirchlichen, zivilgesellschaftlichen Organisationen und Persönlichkeiten des öffentlichen Lebens, dass es schwierig ist, eine einheitliche Stellungnahme als Beitrag hier zu finden. Vielleicht ist es daher am besten, die Dinge möglichst einfach zu halten. Die Fastenzeit ist nun vorbei, und Ostern, das Fest des Lebens, ist da. Die Aufgabe unseres Instituts besteht nicht darin, zur Diskussion darüber beizutragen, wie man sich am besten an diesem Fest beteiligen kann. Unsere Aufgabe ist es, zu fragen, warum dieses Fest nach wie vor von großer Bedeutung ist. Durch Studium, Forschung, Dialog und Interaktion mit unseren Kolleginnen und Kollegen aus der ganzen Welt, bestehend aus einem breiten Spektrum akademischer und theologischer Disziplinen die alle ein gemeinsames Ziel verfolgen, machen unsere Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter genau das. Dies geschieht momentan voneinander getrennt von zu Hause aus, bis die Zeit gekommen ist, auch wieder physisch als Arbeitsgemeinschaft zusammen zu arbeiten. Es gibt so viel was noch ungewiss ist, aber wir werden weiter so arbeiten, wie wir es auch im vergangenen Spätwinter und im gegenwärtigen Frühjahr getan haben, und wir werden Sie über unsere bevorstehenden Publikationen und Kurse per E-Mail, Internet und soziale Medien auf dem Laufenden halten. Für heute jedoch wünschen wir Ihnen in dieser freudigen Jahreszeit, dem Fest der Feste, gesegnete Grüße. Christus ist auferstanden! Hristos a inviat! Christ is Risen!
